How can I get around the possible blocking of gambling sites?

Lately I've read that the government is moving to block gamblers' access to internet gambling sites. This is very distressing to me and I need to prepare for this threat. Is there a simple work-around I could use NOW to prepare for this? I'm not that computer savvy - don't even know how to use proxy servers let alone SSH tunneling, encription etc., but if I need to, I'll have to learn!

Don't think it will ever happen but you could also use a proxy server like kproxy

It ain't going to happen, but if it ever did there are plenty of ways around it. Most of them are fairly simple.....I'd worry about something else for now

Pete, it's a sad time for everyone who believes in personal liberty and responsibility instead of the Bully State.

But a secure Tunnel isn't difficult to install or use at all.

It's a simple Windows installer that you run, and it sets your Internet browser automatically.

You can read about the one I recommend here in this thread in the Computer & Tech Help forum I made on this subject:

Protecting your IP to disguise the state and country you are logging on from..
http://forums.therx.com/showthread.php?t=416657

You should get going with the Tunnel soon, BEFORE problems start with the blocking of sites.

(And to those who keep on mentioning those stupid free ones, like proxy4free.com put up by some Russian hacker, stick with the paid services. Not only are paid ones like the one I recommend faster, but you don't have a thousand hackers and their dog snooping on your connection.

You don't think they would REALLY give you something like that completely free? Get real.)

You might want to search on some of the other threads about potential blocking of websites....consider the fact that the US government has *never* blocked a website of any sort for any reason. If they're not blocking sites that offer pirated software and media, kiddie porn, pro-terrorist websites, etc. they're not going to block gambling sites....if this was something they were interested in doing they would have done it a long time ago. The political and constitutional ramifications of it are too extreme for even the most ardent Bible thumping pol to consider this route...

Many thanks, BMConsultants. That's the advice and info I needed. Will get started soon.

To the other posters: I hear you and I hope you are right, but nothing would surprise me given the recent zeal the federal and state government has shown to stop internet gambling. I forgot where, but somewhere in this forum there was a link to an article stating that gamblers in New York State are already blocked from gambling sites. I know it's not true, but unfortunately, that's the direction we are moving. So while I hope it won't happen, and I know it shouldn't, it doesn't hurt to be prepared.

what happens when you try to withdraw from the book or neteller and they tell you that 200 other people have used the same ip?

Doesnt neteller block access to ur acct if another account uses the same ip to login?

too many problems with these services

If your ISP bans a web site try this and see if you can access, for example if www.willhill.com was banned then type ping www.willhill.com to get its ip address like this

C:\>ping www.willhill.com
Pinging www.willhill.com [217.33.148.40] with 32 bytes of data:

Then use notepad to open C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS file on your pc and type

217.33.148.40 www.willhill.com
save the file then try to access the site, see if this works

I asure you that should this happen a plug-play solution will be 'somehow' distributed to the users. You cant expect everyone to learn new stuff in order to lay a single bet.

That is what the IT departments of all the books /etc are for
